The ocular prosthesis

copyright@Firma Künstliche Augen Hellbach

Artificial eye, glass eye, prosthetic eye, ocular prosthesis – all these terms are understood as referring to a prosthesis which is worn following the loss of a natural eye.

The causes of eye loss predominantly lie in accidents, diseases or congenital abnormalities of the eye which necessitate the wearing and use of an ocular prosthesis.

Each ocular prosthesis is custom-made by hand. It takes the form of a hemisphere which is thicker or thinner according to the anatomy of the eye socket (orbit). The prosthesis is held in place in the eye socket by the counterpressure of the eyelids. The fitting of an ocular prosthesis doesn’t require a surgical operation.

We manufacture our artificial eyes from glass. They look absolutely natural, are worn inconspicuously, and are both hygienically as well as allergically harmless.

It goes without saying that we observe and meet all statutory requirements on ocular prostheses and we have official accreditation with all relevant health insurance funds and cost-bearers.
