In the operation the eyeball is removed, the eye muscles sutured and an autonomous eye socket formed by being lined with conjunctiva by the operating surgeon. It is into this “newly formed” eye socket that the ocular prosthesis is inserted and kept in place by the counterpressure of the eyelids.
Already after the operation the doctor concerned at the eye clinic will then insert a provisional ocular prosthesis.
The purpose behind this is to prevent any shrinkage of the eye socket, and you will continue wearing it until you visit us for the first time in Würzburg or at one of our consultation sessions with manufacture in your vicinity.
The doctor treating you in the eye clinic or your local eye specialist will answer any questions you might have about post-operative care.
